Detail 1

Our Farm apprentices assist in all daily farm operations. Apprentices will learn to use all our farming equipment, irrigation systems, and ‘greenhouse’ & hoophouse systems. Additionally apprentices will participate regularly in field cultivation, harvesting, post-harvest handling, distribution, and record keeping. Finally apprentices will have the opportunity to care for chickens, goats, and honeybees. The majority of work is physical and requires the capability to contribute daily in a rigorous, fast paced agricultural setting. By the end of the growing season in mid-November an apprentice will have a strong foundation to pursue further agricultural training or start their own urban-focused farming business.

Season: March through November

Pay: This is an unpaid apprentice program with a weekly CSA membership

Schedule: Apprentices work 2 four hour morning shifts each week. These shifts can be worked any day Monday through Friday. Our work day starts at 8:00 am. We have a 15 minute break mid-morning and finish before lunch.

Work details:

  •  General animal care including feeding, watering, collecting eggs, and potentially honeybee hive management (depends on the applicant’s comfort level with bees).

  • Field prep & seeding, transplanting, hand weeding, setting up irrigation, trellising, harvesting, washing and packing produce

  • CSA distribution & management

Qualifications

We are looking for positive, reliable, responsible, and hardworking individuals who have a great sense of humor and are able to follow directions and communicate well with others. Attention to detail is critical and a passion for growing food essential.  (If you are not a morning person, a farm job probably isn’t a good fit for you as we start each day early.)

You must also be a team player, punctual, and be able to work in all weather conditions. Be prepared for rain, hail, snow, intense sun, wind, cold and heat each day in the field.
